PIERCE - A field in Pierce is safe after officials quickly dealt with a piece of farm equipment that had caught on fire Monday evening.

Just after 5 pm Pierce fire crews were dispatched to a fire south of town. Fire Chief Steve Dolesh tells NCN that upon arrival, crews found a John Deere Combine that had flames coming from the back of it. The flames were working their way up into the engine compartment.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly, before it reached the fuel tank.

The combine has significant damage to the back and engine compartment. No injuries were reported.

The fire remains under investigation.
