One man dead after vehicle fire near Sunol

SUNOL, NE - Authorities have released details after a a man was found in a burned out vehicle last weekend.

SUNOL, NE - Authorities say one person is dead after a vehicle fire this weekend. 

According to a news release from Cheyenne County Attorney Paul Schaub, first responders were dispatched to a report of a burned out vehicle near Sunol Sunday morning.

Authorities say there was one deceased occupant in the car. 

According to the release, police believe they know the identity of the deceased after a preliminary investigation, but efforts are underway to positively identify the body. 

An autopsy was performed Monday and findings indicated the cause of death was smoke inhalation. 

The Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office and Nebraska State Fire Marshal's Office are continuing to investigate the incident.
