94 Rock hosting “Week of Honor” to help local Veterans
NORFOLK, Neb. — A northeast Nebraska radio station is hosting a week-long event to help local veterans ahead of Veterans Day.
94 Rock is holding its first-ever Week of Honor, giving back to veteran services in northeast Nebraska.
Mookie, host of the “Mookie in the Morning” show on 94 Rock, said that in the past, the event was held for only one day. This year it’s expanding to a week to honor veterans longer.
“Without what they’ve done for us, we wouldn’t have the freedoms that we have,” Mookie said. “These are things we take for granted, and so we thought just one day is almost kind of taking them for granted. So let’s give them a whole week this year.”
Throughout the week, donations can be made on 94 Rocks website or by phone. Donations will go to the Nebraska VFW Foundation, which helps support local veteran services.
Mookie said veterans will join in on air throughout the day to share their stories of service.
“At work, on the drive home, listen anytime you want,” Mookie said. “We’ll have all kinds of wonderful things going on to celebrate our veterans, and we ask that you help out and give back to them because they have given the most to us.”
Jeff Baker is the adjutant quartermaster for the Department of Nebraska VFW. He served in the Army in Iraq from 2003 to 2004. He said the week will honor the sacrifices that service members and their families made.
“All veterans have the opportunity to come together, but also to celebrate their service and recognize their service,” Baker said. “It’s an opportunity for the community to recognize that service.”
Listeners can tune in and donate all week.
