NORFOLK, Neb.— The YMCA in Norfolk was filled with science fun for families of adoption on Saturday.

The Saturday before Thanksgiving is National Adoption Day and Norfolk is celebrating with a science filled day.

Nebraska Children’s Home partners with local organizations to bring adoption families together.

“The families enjoy connecting with other families when they’re here,” Former Adoption Specialist at Nebraska Children’s Home Teri Wendel said. “It’s a wonderful and healthy for the children who are adopted to get to see other kids who have been adopted, and kind of get to see that adopted kids are the same as other kids.”

This year’s theme was science and Dr. Oxygen was in attendance giving the families a show with dry ice, bubbles, and learning.

The event is for families that have been built from adoption, being in it’s 17th year there is many kids that have grown up coming.

"It's fun to see, fun to see those children that we remember from when they were really little and now they’re teenagers. It’s just been a fun event every year,” Wendel said.

Nebraska’s children’s home gives children and families resources when going through adoption.

The event also featured a bouncy house, balloon animals, and kids were able to use all the facilities the YMCA has.
