Multiple agencies in northeast Nebraska responded to a house fire in Norfolk early Wednesday afternoon.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue was called to the area of 910 Andy's North Shore Drive at about 1 p.m. Stanton County fire was called for mutual aid to provide extra manpower and water tankers, Norfolk Fire Chief Scott Cordes said.

Authorities tell News Channel Nebraska they saw smoke coming from the roof when they arrived on scene. Cordes said no one was at the house when the fire started.

"The owner of the structure came home and found the structure on fire, attempted to put it out, by all accounts was unsuccessful in doing that" Cordes said. "They contacted a neighbor, alerted them that their house was on fire and that person ultimately called 911 to get fire and EMS resources out here."

Cordes says the structure suffered heavy damage on the inside and to the roof, and there were no significant injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Madison County Sheriff, Nebraska State Patrol and NPPD were also on scene assisting.
