NORFOLK - Hundreds of women from the Norfolk area came together Wednesday night for an annual event raising awareness for heart disease.

The event, Go Red for Women, included speeches from survivors and others impacted by cardiovascular diseases and silent and live auctions.

The Go Red for Women dinner is one of the major events of the nationwide Go Red for Women movement and is held in many communities every year.

Go Red For Women was started 15 years ago by the American Heart Association with the goal promoting healthy lifestyles and raising funds for research and education for heart health.

The American Heart Association estimates one woman dies every 80 seconds from a cardiovascular disease, including stroke.
