FALLS CITY - Falls City Sacred Heart returned a lot of experience, strength and size on the defensive side of the football this season, and Head Coach Doug Goltz - in his 32nd season with the Irish - says that'll help in their Class D2 semifinal game at No. 1 Humphrey St. Francis (11-0) on Monday.

Goltz likes how aggressive his defense is and how they get to the football, but the main thing is the players know their responsibilities and carry them out. Those responsibilities on Monday will include stopping the Flyers run-game.

"They're very good at running the football and if they're getting five, six and seven yards on first down, it's pretty hard to stop a team who has two more tries to get two, three or four yards," Goltz said. "We have to be good on first down. We have to try to get them into some passing situations. Then we've just got to make sure we get a lot of people to the football."

The No. 3 Irish (11-0) give up 10.7 points per game and 139.0 total yards. They have forced 36 turnovers this season, sacked opposing quarterbacks nine times, and give up just 7.5 first downs per game.

Sacred Heart and St. Francis meet in the postseason for the 11th time since 1989. The Irish lead the series, 6-4, but the Flyers won the last meeting, 54-36, in the quarterfinals last year. The last time Sacred Heart beat St. Francis was in the second round in 2017, 34-30.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 and the game will be broadcast on Today's Best Country, B103 (103.1 FM, b103.fm). News Channel Nebraska's Hunter Arterburn and Dave Kasbohm will have the call.

Weather in northeast Nebraska will be much-improved compared to the quarterfinal games last week. The National Weather Service is calling for clearing skies and a high of 56. Winds will gust out of the north-northwest at 25 MPH.
