Oakland-Craig shuts out Sutton to win Class C-2 title
LINCOLN -- The Oakland-Craig Knights smothered Sutton to earn a 19-0 shutout win in the Class C-2 State Championship game.
The Knights (13-0) fought through rain, wind and sleet to collect the school's second title. The O-C defense held the Mustangs (11-2) to just 154 yards of offense.
Senior quarterback Colton Thomsen punched in a one-yard touchdown in the first quarter to open the scoring.
Oakland-Craig broke through again in the third quarter. Junior Jaron Meyer raced in from 23 yards out to make it 12-0.
The Knights were driving with less than five minutes left in the game when they faced a 4th and 3 around the Sutton 35 yard line. Head coach Joe Anderson called timeout and decided to go for it. Thomsen scrambled for the first down and the clock continued to run.
Senior Ian Lundquist scored the final touchdown on a 14-yard run.
"We knew we had to get a first down and coach was like, 'Ian just get a touchdown,' and I was like alright," Lundquist said. "That excitement crossing that line in the end zone is something I'll never forget."
