NORFOLK - All is well in Norfolk as the Northeast Hawks put on a dominating performance, sweeping the Southwestern Spartans 25-16, 25-15, 25-14.

The Hawks are coming off a stretch where they have won 6 out of the last 7, searching for the momentum to roll through at home.

The Southwestern Spartans have struggled as of late, starting the season 2-3 and coming off a campaign where they won just 3 games in all of 2023. The Hawks have swept the Spartans every year dating back to 2018.

Northeast and Southwestern traded early points in the first set, but the Hawks found a rhythm with Mya Hedstrom and Jayda Christensen on the outside. The Hawks picked up speed late, taking set one 25-16.

The same battle began in the second set, with Southwestern taking a 9-7 lead early. A pair of Spartan freshman, Whitney Hollins and Skyelar Lawal picked up the intensity inside, but the Hawks rallied back again.

Northeast began to secure points with service aces. Mya Hedstrom led the night in that department with 4, as the Hawks powered by the middle half of set two for a 25-15 win.

In set three, the Hawks started hot, leading 10-3 before the Spartans called timeout. Alex Arenas and Kaidence Wilson began to dominate offensivley, as well as Avery Couch through the middle.

The Hawks flew past the Spartans in the third set, winning 25-14 to wrap up the sweep.

Mya Hedstrom finished with 12 kills on the night and 4 aces. Jayda Christensen racked up 9 kills, followed by Kaidence Wilson with 7, Avery Couch with 5 and Alex Arenas with 4.

The Spartans were led by Whitney Hollins with 6 kills and Skyelar Lawal with 4 kills and 4 blocks.

The Hawks jump to 9-3 on the young season, while the Spartans drop down to 2-4.
