(OMAHA, NE, May 7, 2020) – Nebraska’s Spanish speaking and rural residents will continue to receive high-quality news from the region’s most trusted and reliable news source. Flood Communications and Telemundo Nebraska have been awarded the Facebook Journalism Project COVID-19 Local News Relief Fund Grant, created to help publishers serving local communities during the coronavirus outbreak.

Telemundo Nebraska, Nebraska's only statewide Spanish language news organization, developed a special emergency news bureau in Grand Island to facilitate communication from local leadership and health officials to its Spanish speaking audience across Nebraska. This grant provides additional resources to Telemundo Nebraska to ensure Latino residents continue to receive important news updates regarding COVID-19.

“We are humbled and honored to be awarded this important grant from the Facebook Journalism Project,” said Andy Ruback, CEO of Flood Communications. “I continue to be impressed by our team, which remains dedicated to reporting critical news throughout the state during these difficult times. Our team has embraced this challenge and is truly deserving of this special recognition.”

“Delivering high-quality news and information to all residents is crucial during this health crisis,” said Marina Rosado, Telemundo Nebraska Anchor/Reporter. “We are proud to serve the Spanish speaking residents in our region now and in the future.”

Facebook Journalism Project COVID-19 Local News Relief Fund Grant resources will enable Telemundo Nebraska, which is owned by Flood Communications, to continue to operate its statewide bilingual news department. More than 2,000 news organizations applied for the grant, which was awarded to 200 recipients, only two of which are based in Nebraska.

“News surrounding COVID-19 continues to evolve, and we understand the importance of ensuring all residents have access to accurate information, regardless of the language in which it is delivered,” said Mike Flood, Founder of Flood Communications.

Telemundo Nebraska owns and operates television stations in Omaha, Lincoln, Grand Island, South Sioux City, Norfolk, Columbus and Beatrice. The Omaha-based television network is the Telemundo affiliate in the Omaha, Sioux City and Lincoln/Tri-Cities DMAs.
