Christ Lutheran School raises $7.7 million for construction, renovation
NORFOLK, Neb. -- Though the season of giving has ended, a school in Norfolk is still feeling the effects.
In October, Christ Lutheran School started a campaign to raise $8 million to replace a wing of the school building.
The wing consists of two hallways, multiple classrooms, and the gym.
The school is looking to renovate the wing and create a safer environment for children.
"We're undertaking this endeavor. Safety is our number one," said Mike Moreno, Director of Ministries for Christ Lutheran Church. "Our school is outdated and we want to make sure we are up to code on a lot of things but also the opportunity to serve the members of our Lutheran community in a better way."
The school has raised $7.7 million.
In November, the school received a match donation of $961,000.
The donation came at the right time, putting the funds raised right over $7 million.
"This was a really big mountain to climb to get to seven million. With the rising cost, it was like 'we can get there, I think,' but with that donation, it was like 'this is a slam dunk,' this is going to happen," said Drew Urban, Principal of Christ Lutheran School.
If you would like to donate, you can call the school at 402-371-5536 and give a pledge or, you can drop off a check at the school. The address is 511 S Fifth Street, Norfolk, NE 68701.
