Honas announces plans to transfer from Nebraska
A Nebraska linebacker announced Monday morning that he will be leaving the Husker program.
LINCOLN, Neb. -- A Nebraska linebacker announced Monday morning that he will be leaving the Husker football program.
Will Honas, who joined the Huskers in Scott Frost's first recruiting class, made the announcement via Twitter.
"It's been an honor to rep the N and be a part of the Blackshirt defense for the past four years," Honas said.
Due to injuries, redshirts, and the free COVID-19 granted to all players, Honas will have one year of eligibility remaining after entering the transfer portal. The 2022 season will be his seventh year in college football. He played two seasons at Butler Community College in Kansas before playing four seasons with the Huskers.
Honas had his first season in Lincoln cut short due to injury. Due to the injury occurring in his fourth game, he was able to maintain his redshirt season.
The Kansas native then played in 19 games over the next two seasons, starting every game in the COVID-shortened 2020 season. His 2021 season was wiped out by an injury prior to the season.
For his career, Honas had 145 tackles, including 12 tackles for loss and four sacks.
Honas will be a graduate transfer, having earned his degree in nutrition and health sciences in December of 2020.
