NORFOLK, Neb. -- A northeast Nebraska man was arrested after he allegedly threatened to cut a Norfolk store employee with a knife.

Norfolk Police were called to a business in the 100 block of Norfolk Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

Officers spoke to s store employee who stated that an intoxicated man had been standing outside the business and asking customers for marijuana. The employee said they asked the man, later identified as 41-year-old Michael Byrnes of Norfolk, to leave the property.

As Byrnes started to walk away, the employee told police, he turned, drew a knife, and threatened to cut the employee while walking toward the employee. According to NPD, Byrnes stopped advancing on the employee, turned and walked off.

According to NPD, witnesses confirmed the events and it was captured on video surveillance.

Other officers located the suspect near 1st and Madison. The knife reportedly brandished by Byrnes was recovered from a woman with whom he was walking.

Byrnes was arrested for terroristic threats and use of a weapon to commit a felony. He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail
