Norfolk man killed in South Dakota crash

BOX ELDER, S.D. – A northeast Nebraska man died Friday in a two-vehicle crash in South Dakota, authorities said.
According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, information obtained at the scene indicated that an 2006 Toyota Tacoma was eastbound on Interstate 90 when the driver lost control. The vehicle went into the median, rolled and came to rest in the left westbound lane. It was struck by a westbound 2017 GMC Acadia.
The driver of the GMC Acadia, 69-year-old Dennis Jones of Norfolk, was pronounced dead at a Rapid City hospital.
Charges are pending against the driver of the Toyota Tacoma, 51-year-old Peter Lyon of Edmonds, Washington. Seat belt use by all three people involved is under investigation.
Neither Lyon nor Jones' passenger were injured.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
