Norfolk chamber member speaks on Cardinal Health situation
NORFOLK, Neb.-- Norfolk leaders and state officials met on Wednesday for a meeting to discuss a number of topics affecting the city, but one topic took center stage -- possible lay-offs at Cardinal Health's Norfolk facility in 2023.
Norfolk Chamber of Commerce member, Dan Spray, told News Channel Nebraska that the topic was important to everyone in attendance.
“We as a community want to work closely with Cardinal to ensure that our citizens are taken care of and the jobs stay here," Spray said.
Several employees at Cardinal Health’s Norfolk location, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said last week that they were informed recently that the company would be moving some of its production to other locations outside of the Norfolk facility.
In an email to NCN on March 30th, Cardinal Health confirmed that operational changes are expected by April of 2023, while also stating there are no immediate affects to staff members' employment status.
“We continually adapt our business to meet the changing needs of our industry and have made the difficult decision to move partial production out of this plant to other suppliers over the course of the coming year,” the company statement read. “Any potential employee impacts will be assessed and communicated with transparency. There are no immediate employee impacts,".
Cardinal Health has been in business for 50 years and has operations in more than 40 countries. It employs approximately 48,000 employees globally.
