NORFOLK, Neb. -- Authorities and first responders were on the scene of a fire that turned fatal northwest of Norfolk Monday morning.

The Madison County Sheriff's office said that shortly after 11:00 a.m. Norfolk 911 Dispatch received a call of a fire on 550th Ave. 

Officials said that the caller had advised that there was a fire at the residence and a man was trying to put it out. 

Authorities said that Norfolk Fire was dispatched along with the Madison County Sheriff's Department. On arrival, officials said that responders found a fire burning among the outbuildings of the property. 

Madison County officials said that near the fire, authorities found the body of a man who died from fire-related injuries. 

Officials identified the man as 72-year-old Stanley Acklie, who was a resident of the address. 

Authorities said that a witness noted that Acklie had been burning trash at the location, and when the witness tried to inform Acklie that the fire appeared to be out of control, he was found dead from his injuries. 

Madison County Sheriff Todd Volk said that the on-scene investigation indicated that Acklie had been burning trash when his clothing caught fire.

Additionally, officials said that it appeared Acklie attempted to remove his clothing but succumbed to the heat and flames.

Volk said that Acklie was pronounced dead at the scene.
