WAKEFIELD, Neb. -- A florist in Wakefield made their Oscars debut this year.

Lazy Acres Decor and Floral is located in the heart of Wakefield and put the town on the map after being chosen to decorate the Oscars after-party in Los Angeles.

The shop was invited to the event after store owner Sarah Ekberg's colleague invited her and her daughters to California to be one of the decorators for the event.

Ekberg dedicated her family's work ethic to achieving the feat.

"It's been amazing. It just goes to show you that if you have a good work ethic and you know what you're capable of, there are big opportunities for a small-town florist out there. It's not every day a florist from Nebraska does an Oscars event," said Ekberg.

Lazy Acres was in charge of creating over 50 centerpieces, three large floral installations, and decorating the runway with floral arrangements.

She and her daughters only had that Sunday to set up.

Ekberg encourages everyone to support their small-town businesses.

"Support your small-town businesses. Just because they aren't the big brand company that's out there doesn't mean we are not knowledgeable in our craft and what we do," she said. It doesn't mean we don't have all the answers the bigger people have because we do too."

Lazy Acres Decor and Floral is located at 302 Main Street in Wakefield.

The store is open Monday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm.
