MADISON, Neb. -- A northeast Nebraska juvenile was in court Thursday facing charges after an alleged sexual assault and police pursuit.

The Stanton County Sheriff's Office said early Thursday that a 17-year-old from Leigh broke into a home and sexually assaulted a woman before stealing her SUV and engaging in a police chase through multiple counties.

He was later arrested after being found on top of a livestock trailer near West Point. Authorities said they located multiple weapons during the arrest.

The initial call was received by authorities shortly after midnight, with the arrest occurring at approximately 2:40 a.m.

The suspect was charged with first-degree sexual assault, burglary, theft of more than $5,000, false imprisonment, use of a weapon to commit a felony, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, terroristic threats and more.

Stanton County Attorney Bert Lammli said family members feared for their safety in the presence of the suspect, something Lammli said warranted continued detention.

The unfiled case will go through Stanton County Court, though the suspect initially appeared at the Madison County Courthouse on Thursday.

The suspect will be arraigned April 26th at 9 a.m. He remains in Madison County juvenile jail on a 10% of $500,000 bond.

Judge Michael Long presided.
