NORFOLK, Ne. -- The Norfolk Noon Kiwanis and the Norfolk Track Club hosted the first annual 'Youth Track and Field Classic' at Norfolk High School Friday evening.

Four hundred kids signed up to participate in track and field activities during the event. The ages ranged from 4-to 14-years-old and each kid was allowed to sign up for three different events each.

Dan Fuerhoff, who is one of the directors of the Norfolk Noon Kiwanis, said the event was a great way to promote kids participating in track and field.

“We really hope it gets their interest in track peaked a little bit, so once they get into junior high and high school, they go out for the track team,” said Fuerhoff.

The Norfolk Track Club was started around 15 years ago and wanted to put on this event sooner, but Covid-19 shut things down. Fuerhoff said the event wants to also promote exercise and fitness in the youth.
