MADISON - The murder trial of DeShawn Gleaton Jr. entered its fifth day in Madison District Court.

Friday began with Attorney Joe Smith calling more witnesses to the stand including several employees of the Norfolk Police Division and friends of Gleaton.

A number of exhibits were also shown including a pair of glasses, a .45 caliber cartridge case, a box of ammunition, and a billfold.

All evidence, the prosecution says, is connected to the shooting death of 29-year-old Hailey Christiansen in July 2020 in Norfolk.

Gleaton is five facing charges in the case, including first-degree murder.

Attorney Todd Lancaster objected to several of the exhibits on the basis of foundation, but Judge James G. Kube overruled after additional witness testimony.

Witness Tanya Stolpe recalled the night of Gleaton's arrest in Sioux City.

"I just woke up to go to the bathroom and I noticed lights going off so I looked out the back of my window and I saw the apartment complex filled with cop cars. So I just went outside to see what was going on," Stolpe said.

The trial is expected to continue next week.
