WAYNE, Neb. -- A sport you don't see a lot in Nebraska was being played at Wayne State College on Friday.

The college hosted the Girls High School National Championship Rugby Tournament with teams that came all the way from California and Utah to compete for a title.

The team mom with one of the Utah teams the ’Majestics’, Letizia Wolfgramm, talked about what she thinks of Nebraska for the first time.

“Oh my goodness, I can't say how grateful we are to be here,” said Wolfgramm. “This is exciting. Basically, Wayne State College has been one of the best hosts ever," she added.

Wolfgramm said the girls were thrilled to compete for a national championship in the Cornhusker State.

“This is their first time actually making it here,” Wolfgramm said. “We’re excited to be here in Nebraska to show what we’ve got back in Utah. They’re super excited."

After the game, News Channel Nebraska caught up with one of the captains for the Majestics, Sini Fangu, and she explained there was a lot of familiarity with the team they were facing during the match.

“We played them before in Utah,” Fangu said. “We took state in Utah. United came with a really good game. We fought extra hard today.”

Since most, if not all, of the players had never been to a state like Nebraska, NCN asked what her thoughts were so far.

“It’s pretty spacious,” Fangu said. “There’s a lot of open space out here. It’s pretty nice though. I like the weather. It’s very windy but I like it so far.”

Games go Friday and will continue through Saturday when a national champion will be crowned. Admission is free if anyone would like to attend and watch the two high schools play each other.
