NORFOLK, Neb. -- A man was airlifted to Sioux City after a workplace accident in northeast Nebraska on Friday.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, including LifeNet, after an accident involving a railroad worker near the area KGP Services, located north of Norfolk in Pierce County, at approximately 3:00 p.m.

Norfolk Fire Capt. Landon Grothe said a railroad tie hit the worker while the worker was trying to unstrap the tie at the site on Kaneb Road near Hadar.

Grothe said the worker suffered a serious head injury, among other potentially serious injuries, and he was flown to Sioux City via LifeNet for medical treatment.

Management at Nebraska Central Railroad said via telephone that they were unable to comment due to lack of information at this time.
