Several red flag warnings in effect as high winds, high temps hit Nebraska
NEBRASKA -- The National Weather Service has issued multiple red flag warnings across Nebraska for Wednesday.
A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
Wednesdays temperatures are expected to hit 100 degrees in several parts of the state, while wind gusts could reach as high as 45 mph. Relative humidity is as low as 12 percent in much of the affected areas.
During this time, any fires that ignite may spread rapidly and exhibit extreme fire behavior. Use extreme caution if engaging in activities that could result in fire ignition. Avoid any outdoor burning. Any fires that start may rapidly grow and spread out of control.
There are 41 counties in western, central, and northeast Nebraska that are currently in a red flag warning.
