23-year-old pleads not guilty to seven charges related to crash that killed Beemer woman

WEST POINT — A 23-year-old Omaha man pleaded not guilty to seven charges related to a fatal crash in northeast Nebraska.
According to court documents, Jacob Kenney entered the not guilty pleas on Thursday in Cuming County Court.
He is accused motor vehicle homicide, driving while under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury, manslaughter, theft by unlawful taking, and failure to stop and render aid -- all of which are felonies. He is also charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and refusal to submit to a chemical test -- both misdemeanors.
All of the charges against Kenney are in connection to a fatal crash that claimed the life of a Beemer woman and injured her husband.
The crash occurred early May 14th near the intersection of Highways 275 and 51 by Wisner. Investigators say a car driven by Kenney crossed the centerline and struck a pickup driven by Curt Lantz, Jr. Lantz's wife, Tara, was killed in the crash.
The Cuming County Sheriff's Office said Kenney took the vehicle of a first-responder and fled the scene. The sheriff's office said authorities eventually made contact with Kenney in the stolen vehicle. He was then medically treated and arrested.
Kenney has a pre-trial conference scheduled for Sept. 1. His jury trial is currently scheduled to begin Sept. 19.
