NORFOLK, Neb. -- North Fork Area Transit will be starting a new service and has applications open now for students to apply.

They will be accepting registrations through July 21 for student transportation in Norfolk using their new Tripper Service.

According to the North Fork Area Transit, the new Tripper routes will serve bus stops in neighborhoods where parents have indicated interest through the registration process.

Tripper will be available for routes that are requested as well as when school starts and dismisses.

The bus stops will be located within a block or two of the students' homes. When all passengers on the route have boarded, the bus will drive to Norfolk schools for drop-off.

North Fork Area Transit said that the Tripper service provides additional public transit routes to supplement current ForkLift bus routes.

Tripper routes will only be available on school days. North Fork Area Transit can transport unaccompanied children, ages four and older, to and from their destinations with this service. Adult supervision for young children is recommended at bus stop locations.

The cost of the Tripper will be $1 per person for one-way trips or $30 per person for the month.

North Fork Area Transit said that youth ages 12 and older can also choose to utilize the existing ForkLift bus route system for free by going to a bus stop near them.

With increased demand from the community for school transportation, North Fork Area Transit said that Tripper service will begin in August.

The North Fork Area Transit said that parents and guardians must register their children for the upcoming school year by calling 402-379-4595 or by stopping at the transit office, located in the southwest corner of the Norfolk Senior Center at 307 W Prospect Ave.

Office hours for the North Fork Area Transit are Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
