$20K raised for the family of Ryan Keogh
ATKINSON, Neb. -- Community members from Atkinson and O'Neill came together for a fundraiser for Ryan Keogh.
President of Atkinson Fire and Rescue Bob Mahood, said that Keogh died in May due to an accident near Bassett, and they just wanted to do something for him and his family.
"Ryan was a valuable part of our community and we wanted to do something from the community to give back to his kids," Mahood said. "We had Ryan for a long time, we shared him with his family and we just wanted to do something super kid-centered."
Mahood teamed up with the community to bring a day filled with kids' activities, a firetruck splash pad, donation-based food, and a silent auction.
"Everyone loves firetrucks, lights, and sirens," Mahood said. "The community outreach to support this event was wonderful, all the proceeds are going to go to Ryan's kids for their education."
Mahood said there were t-shirts created by a member of the Atkinson Fire Department for the family and members of the Department. There were also shirts made for the public that were going to be sold.
The O'Neill and Atkinson Fire and Rescues both provided fire engines for the splash pad.
"Basically it was a community supporting us supporting Ryan and his family," Mahood said.
Mahood said about 500 people showed up for the event Saturday, and about $20,000 was raised.
