'Ridiculous how expensive equipment is': Community helps fire department raise funds
HOSKINS -- Hoskins/Woodland Park Fire Department is in severe need of a new firetruck, and new SCBA masks.
"It's ridiculous how expensive equipment is," said volunteer Amy Paulson. That's why she helped organize the department's third annual Poker Run, Saturday. "I was driving the oldest truck we have the other day and boy, it is out of date."
Last year, they raised around $1,200, according to Paulson, though they may see a smaller number this year due to a busy day with about half as many participants this year -- at 35. But, she said, "We'll be humbled by any donations."
She added that the day is also just about connecting with the community.
Woodland Park Fire Captain Jared Gall said that's one of the best parts of the job. "Just to kind of help people out," he said. "We just give back to the community."
