NORFOLK, Neb. -- The city of Norfolk held a meeting Tuesday evening to update the public on the status of the Benjamin Avenue construction project.

The project has suffered delays, with officials attributing the setbacks to weather problems during the weekend of July 4th.

Heavy rainfalls made the job site inaccessible, project leaders said.

City officials also said the project suffered an additional three weeks of delay due to utility problems.

A big focus of the meeting was how parents would have access to the Middle School come August 11th, after initial projections indicated an expected completion date prior to the new school year.

The current plan is to have the south lanes open so the middle school has access to the road, according to officials.

The project is now slated to be completed by the end of 2023.

The next update meeting is scheduled to be held during the week of August 8th - 12th.
