NORFOLK, Neb. -- A northeast Nebraska construction project is underway.

Even though the city of Norfolk announced on Friday that the East Benjamin Avenue Trail Project began on Monday, the assistant city engineer, Anna Allen, said construction work won't likely start until early next week.

“We have everything in order now,” said Allen. “I think they’ll hit the ground running next week."

The project has been in the works since about 2018 according to Allen. Once completed, the project will have positive benefits for community members.

“The benefit will be connecting the trail system,” Allen said. “There’s already that trail system that goes south along victory towards that new subdivision. That’ll extend it going north and then it’ll extend all the way east to Northeast Community College."

The city of Norfolk expects the project to take about a month and a half to complete.

Traffic delays shouldn’t be an issue during construction.

“There really shouldn’t be an impact on any traffic,” said Allen.
