NORFOLK, Neb. -- A fire near Continental Tire in Norfolk caused traffic to shut down Friday afternoon on W. Omaha Ave.

Firefighters were called to the scene at approximately 4:00 p.m. Crews remained on the scene tending to small grass fires by 5:00 p.m. Traffic in both directions was closed as a result of the fire.

The Norfolk Fire Division said there were no damage costs and they do not know the specific cause of the fire.

"It could have been a cigarette; that's a common cause of ditch fires, but that's speculation," Norfolk Fire Lieutenant Bob Nelson said. "Right now we're extremely dry because of this drought. So people need to be extremely careful."
