NEWCASTLE, Neb. -- A two-vehicle accident with a semi truck left one person dead in northeast Nebraska.

The Dixon County Sheriff's Office said it responded to a report of a two-vehicle accident at 7:36 a.m. on Monday about three miles west of Newcastle on Highway 32 near mile marker 220.

Deputies said a driver in a Honda Civic was traveling westbound on Highway 12 by himself when his car collided with an eastbound semi truck. The driver of the Honda was reportedly ejected from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Cody Thomas of the Nebraska State Patrol, the preliminary investigation indicated that the Honda driver crossed the center line before striking the semi.

Thomas said the driver of the Honda was identified as 49-year-old Anthony Amo of Sioux City, Iowa.

The driver of the semi was uninjured, Thomas said.

The accident is currently being investigated by the DCSO and the Nebraska State Patrol. Newcastle Fire and Rescue, the Dixon County Sheriff's Office and the Nebraska State Patrol all responded to the accident.
