OMAHA, Neb. -- A man from Omaha was sentenced to 70 months' imprisonment by the federal court as a felon in possession of a firearm.

U.S. Attorney Steven Russell said 44-year-old Gregg Grant, of Omaha, was sentenced on Aug. 19. to 70 months' imprisonment. Grant will begin his three-year supervised release once he finishes his sentence. There is no parole in the federal system.

The court documents said Grant reportedly fired a round off from a firearm at his fiancée's home in Omaha on Aug. 16, 2021. Around that time, Grant also fired two rounds in the air in Decatur.

According to authorities, officers in Walthill found and arrested Grant while he was the passenger of vehicle. Grant reportedly admitted to having a firearm in the vehicle. The officers said they found a Hi-Point JHP .45 ACP handgun, .45 caliber ammunition, a magazine containing seven rounds, and casings after searching the vehicle.

Officials said Grant was convicted of third-degree second offense assault domestic violence in Douglas County District Court and was prohibited from possessing firearms since it was a felony conviction.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
