NORFOLK, NE.- The Nebraska State Patrol surprised drivers with full inspections of their commercial vehicles on Tuesday.

Troopers began surprise inspections Tuesday morning in Norfolk to keep the roadways safe. Trooper-led inspections include checks for brakes, driver qualifications, CDLs, among other possible violations. These surprise stops help keep a watchful eye on vehicles that do not stop at your typical weigh stations, troopers on site said.

"For the troopers here today it's their daily job, they inspect trucks every single day, weigh trucks, make sure they're not overweight for the roads as well," Nebraska State Patrol Sgt. David Flohr said.

Trucking companies found with violations can face consequences such as paying fines to out-of-service time for its vehicle. Although, NSP says companies found clear of all violations during inspection will be rewarded.

NSP completed over 20 commercial vehicle inspections Tuesday, with plans to continue inspections in more towns across the state.

"This here today is just where we get all those troopers together and that do this daily and kind of work altogether as a team," Flohr said.
