NORFOLK, Neb. -- A northeast Nebraska woman faces multiple charges after officers believe she put her child at risk late Thursday night.

Just before 11:00 p.m. Thursday, Norfolk Police responded to a call from the woman's 12-year-old child. The child was riding in the car with her mother, who was believed to be driving under the influence of alcohol.

Shortly after the call to police, the woman reportedly dropped the 12-year-old off in the 800 block of E. Benjamin Avenue and left the area. Officers located the child and spoke to her, noting that the child reported being scared of her mother's driving. She stated that her mother had been at a local bar and was swerving on the road while driving.

Officers took the child to her home and made contact with her mother. NPD officers reported that the mother was slurring her speech, had red bloodshot eyes and smelled like alcohol.

NPD questioned the mother about the child's allegations, at which point she reportedly kicked an officer's foot out of the doorway and attempted to shut the door while the child was inside. Officers then arrested the woman, who police allege was uncooperative during the arrest process.

The woman was arrested for child abuse, obstructing a police officer, and resisting arrest. She was housed in the Norfolk city Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
