NORFOLK, Neb. -- Two people were arrested on drug charges after Norfolk Police reportedly found drugs in an apartment Monday night.

At approximately 8:45 p.m., Norfolk Police responded to an apartment in the 1300 block of East Grove Avenue after receiving a complaint alleging the that there was the smell of marijuana coming from their apartment.

Officers reported noticing the same smell upon arrival at the apartment, according to Norfolk Police Capt. Michael Bauer.

When officers knocked on the apartment door, 22-year-old Bronwynn C. Birch answered the door with her dog, according to police reports.

Bauer said Birch, who lives at the apartment, left the door open as she put the dog away.

With the door open, Bauer said, officers could see into the kitchen, where they reportedly saw marijuana pipes and other drug paraphernalia on the counter.

In a search of the apartment, over two pounds of marijuana and numerous paraphernalia items were recovered, Bauer said. Officers also reportedly recovered a small amount of cocaine.

Birch shares the apartment with Garett M. Ladwig, 20, of Norfolk. Both were arrested for possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver and possession of a controlled substance. Both were housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
