Northeast men's soccer scores comeback victory, women's scoring blitz continues
NORFOLK, Neb. -- The Northeast Community College seventh-ranked Northeast Community College soccer teams scored a pair of key conference victories at home on Wednesday.
The Hawks' sixth-ranked women's team notched an 8-0 win over Hawkeye, while the seventh-ranked Northeast men's squad secured a hard-fought 2-1 win against the Red Tails.
The 8-0 win for the women's team means that Northeast has now won six straight games, outscoring their last four opponents by a 36-0 margin. Northeast has averaged 10 goals per game in their past three outings.
Five different players scored for the Hawks, led by Jessie Eijbersen's hat trick. The RedTails, meanwhile, were unable to fire off a single shot against Northeast.
Northeast's women's squad is now 11-1-1 on the season.
On the men's side, the Hawks scored two second-half goals to notch a comeback win over the RedTails.
Despite dominating possession in the first half, the Hawks entered the break down 1-0. Two quick goals and a pair of highlight-reel saves by Reagan Maliska helped propel Northeast to victory.
“I absolutely loved the response from the boys after halftime,” Northeast men's coach Adam Potter said. “They stepped up and faced adversity head on today.”
The Hawks will host Scott Community College in a men's and women's doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. Saturday at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk. Both games can be viewed live on News Channel Nebraska.
