LINCOLN, Neb. -- A new mayoral candidate has entered the ring in Lincoln, with a former Nebraska football player expected to make a formal announcement this week.

Stan Parker will host a press conference on Wednesday announcing that he is running for mayor against incumbent Leirion Gaylor Baird. Parker will be joined by his former coach, Tom Osborne.

Parker graduated from Bellevue East High School before playing offensive tackle for the Huskers in the 1980s. Parker has spent much of his post-playing career working in ministry and Christian radio.

Gaylor Baird was elected to the office in 2019. Petitioners attempted to recall her in 2020 but were unable to gather enough signatures to get the effort onto the ballot.
