NORFOLK, Neb. -- A northeast Nebraska radio station is showing its appreciation to farmers by giving them free food.

Radio station US92 has spent the past few weeks hosting "Elevator Tailgaters" across northeast Nebraska. These events are held at various grain elevators in the region, with US92 providing lunches to farmers for free.

US92 radio host Caelan Debban said he believes it's just a small way to give back to those who provide for so many.

"I think it's incredibly important," Debban said. "Farmers don't get the appreciation and the thank you that they should... They're working out in the field every single day from dawn to dusk and most of the time they just do it without getting a thank you or even getting recognized at all. This is something we've been doing for quite a long time...we appreciate helping out, our farmers out there."

By partnering with multiple organizations, US92 helps many farmers and their families stay fed in the middle of a harvest, Debban said. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., anyone can stop by the tailgate to pick up as many meals as needed. Each meal comes with a bratwurst, chips, ice cream and a drink.

"Love it, love it," farmer Dawn Kucera said about the event. "It gets me out of making lunches for a day."

A full schedule of the remaining tailgates can be found on the US92 website.
