Parties announce endorsements for local nonpartisan races
NORFOLK, Neb. -- One northeast Nebraska political group is entering the fray in what are technically nonpartisan races.
The Madison County Republicans is endorsing candidates running for Norfolk Public School Board and LENRD.
The chair of the Madison County Republican Party Stephen Sunderman said the party has endorsed Teri Bauer, Cindy Booth, and Lindsay Dixon.
Sunderman said all of the candidates align with what the party stands for.
“For the school board, we were lucky to have three Republican candidates that are running,” said Sunderman. “They’re all fiscal conservatives that are for more parental control and more accountability in schools.”
Along with the three candidates that Sunderman endorsed, the other candidates include Leann Widhalm, Jake Claussen, and Leonor Fuhrer.
While there is no official head of the Madison County Democrats, the state Democratic Party has endorsed Widhalm and Claussen for the school board race.
Sunderman also entered a Republican endorsement for the LENRD, announcing the party's support of Matthew Neujahr for the Subdistrict 3 role. The state Democratic Party did not announce an endorsement on its page for the LENRD position for which Neujahr is running, posting its support for candidates in the Lower Platte NRD instead.
Sunderman said county party leaders are rallying behind their local candidates in a shared event with candidates running for statewide offices later this week.
