NORFOLK, Neb. -- After both teams won the Region XI tournament, the soccer teams of Northeast are traveling to Arizona to play in the 2022 NJCAA National tournament.

On Thursday, Union 73 was packed with players, coaches, students, and fans alike to provide well wishes and congratulations to the Hawks' soccer teams.

Last month both the women and men's teams won their Region XI tournament. For the women's team, it was the third year in a row, and for the men's team a program first.

By winning the tournament, the Hawks have earned a bid to the NJCAA National Tournament in Tucson beginning November 14. Athletic director Jerrett Mills praised both programs on their success

"It's a great accomplishment," Mills said. "I'm so proud of our student-athletes and our coaches and all the great hard work they've put in."

Northeast women's coach Chad Miller says winning Region XI for the third time was surreal and surprising.

"Just one was actually a gift and it kind of just snowballed from there," Miller said. "When we first came in, we didn't know how this was going to go. We had 16-17 new faces...but you know the sophomores did their job on keeping the freshman into the culture and the freshman did a great job...coming in and doing their part to make this successful.

Miller says Northeast hopes to get out of pool play and further into the bracket this year. The Hawks are in "Pool D" this year alongside 4th seed Northwest Mississippi and 5th seed Pima Community College. Northeast is the 9th seed in the tournament.

As for the men's team, their experience in Tucson will be a first for both the players and coaches. Adam Potter is in his first year as head coach for the Hawks. Much like his players, being in the national tournament will be a new experience, but one that has him amped up.

"We're really excited about where we're in a position right now to go towards the national tournament," Potter said. "We just keep reiterating to the guys 'job's not done,' so we're excited about going forward."

The Hawks men's team will be in "Pool A" to begin the tournament. They are the 8th seed alongside the 12th seed Massasoit and the 1st seed Phoenix College. Play begins November 14 for both teams.
