NORFOLK, Neb. -- A community college in northeast Nebraska is holding a livestock show this weekend.

Northeast Community College is holding its 37th Annual NECC Livestock Classic Steer and Heifer Show this Friday and Saturday.

The classic will showcase two showmanship events, along with two breeding Heifer showcases and a market steer show.

The ag organizations on campus held the show to fundraise for travel expenses during the year.

Mike Roeber, a livestock judging coach at Northeast, said the event showcases the work from ag students.

"We got a lot of good cattle here. This is kind of the kickoff to the new show year, so kids have been putting in time, getting the cattle ready," Roeber said. "Some have had more time than others but it's just a great opportunity to see the cattle the first time out."

Participants came from all over the state, plus Iowa, Kansas, and Texas.

Friday's event ends at 5 PM.

On Saturday morning, the event will start at 10:30 AM and wraps up at 5 PM.
