'It takes so much time': One-Acts highlight the hard work the performers put in
NORFOLK, Neb. -- It was the final day of the 2022 NSAA Play Production Championships in Norfolk.
Friday's schedule was pushed back by an hour due to weather conditions, but that didn't stop the performers from putting on a happy face before and after performing.
Scotus Central Catholic was back for the second straight year and performed ‘The Addams Family'.
Shayleen Smith who played the grandma in the show said theater is a part of who she is.
“It’s definitely a part of my identity,” Smith said. “I joined it ever since I was a freshman and I just fell in love with it. Anytime I walk out on that stage, I can become anyone I wanna be.”
Smith added the amount of time and effort put into these types of productions is second to none.
"It takes so much time,“ she said. “There’s countless nights I won’t get home till like 10 o clock and it’s just so many hours. It’s definitely a lot more effort than what people think.”
It took Smith almost two hours to put on her full costume for the production on Friday.
Another cast member on the production Mark Buhmn said he's proud of his cast members to make it back to state for the second straight year.
“It’s special to be a part of something like this,” Buhmn said.
Arnold claimed the first state championship of the week, winning Class D2. Wausa won Class D1, taking home a state title for the 14th time, all since 2006. Wausa was competing by itself for the first time since 2017, having formed a co-op with Osmond for four years. The Vikings have won 12 of their state crowns alone, with two of their championships coming from the co-op with Osmond.
Hartington-Newcastle became the first Thursday winner, bringing home the Class C2 crown. Aquinas edged in-city foe David City for the Class C1 title.
