Two Omaha men stopped for speeding in stolen car near Stanton, arrested on multiple charges
STANTON, Neb. -- Two Omaha men were stopped for speeding Tuesday evening, and were arrested on multiple charges in northeast Nebraska.
The Stanton County Sheriff's Office said around 6:10 p.m. they stopped a speeding car that was going 92 mph in a 70 mph zone, heading west on Highway 275 near Stanton.
During the stop, the Sheriff's Office said they found the vehicle was reported stolen in Omaha earlier Tuesday.
Authorities said that the driver of the stolen pickup was 48-year-old John Stanley Newberry III of Omaha.
Newberry was reportedly found to have a suspended drivers license and an active arrest warrant from Sarpy County for failure to appear, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Officials said the passenger was 29-year-old Maurice Brown of Omaha.
Brown was reportedly also taken into custody, and the Stanton County Sheriff's Office said that during the contact with Brown, concentrated THC was found in the stolen pickup.
The Sheriff's Office said that was a felony drug violation.
Both of the men were booked at the Sheriff's Office and they face theft and drug related charges.
Stanton County Sheriff's Office said that stolen Chevy pickup was impounded at the request of the Omaha Police Department.
