Elkhorn Valley Museum presents 'Curiosities From The Collection' exhibit
NORFOLK, Neb. -- The Elkhorn Valley Museum recently displayed its new exhibit titled, "The Curiosities from the Collection."
The exhibit showcases unique items that don't have a specific place within other themed exhibits, but when pieced together they tell the historical stories of the ways of life in the northeast region.
The museum's Executive Director Libby McKay said the artifacts on display show the importance of the settlers' history.
"These items in particular show the array of lifestyles for the region over time," said McKay. "I think part of the importance of showcasing these pieces is that it connects us to not only our regional and our Nebraska history, but shows how immigrants here and people who came and settled the area really had the whole tie around the settlement of the country."
"The Curiosities from the Collection's" pieces show an array of the artifacts donated or loaned to the Elkhorn Valley Museum over the last few years.
The new exhibit is the museum's first exhibit to be in the front gallery area.
Curator Drew DeCamps said the exhibit foregrounds the museum's most interesting pieces to offer.
"So we're telling the regional story of immigration, and we're also telling stories about civic matters like fire departments, civil, defense, we have a radiation meter in there, and also some people's clothes," said DeCamps. "Some of the quilts we have, friendship quilts are from Maddison county."
"The Curiosities from the Collection" exhibit will be open for public viewing through February 2023 as the gallery rotates exhibits throughout the year.
The Elkhorn Valley Museum also features other Norfolk related collections like the Johnny Carson exhibit.
