NORFOLK, Neb. -- A 35-year-old Norfolk woman is facing drug charges after police reportedly found meth in an apartment where she and a child were staying.

At approximately 10:18 a.m. Tuesday, Norfolk Police officers were called to an apartment in the 600 block of South 1st Street to assist a Nebraska state probation officer. The probation officer had been searching the residence of a probationer and had reportedly located drug paraphernalia, according to Norfolk Police Capt. Michael Bauer.

When officers arrived, Bauer said, they recovered a spoon with residue, a syringe, a broken glass pipe and several small baggies with white residue that had been located in the search.

According to Bauer, the spoon tested positive for methamphetamine.

The resident, Nakia R. Wells, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. A child also lived in the residence, Bauer said, leading to a citation for child abuse.

Wells was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
