Late-game Minot State flurry seals Beavers' sweep of Wayne State

WAYNE, Neb. -- The Wayne State basketball teams suffered a pair of defeats Friday night in Rice Auditorium, including a shocking finish in the men's game.
Minot State rallied from a seven point deficit with two minutes remaining, taking advantage of three straight Wayne State turnovers, as the Beavers shocked the Wildcats 80-79 in NSIC men's basketball play.
Prior to the Wildcats seemingly gaining irrevocable control of the game, the contest went back and forth with 13 ties and nine lead changes.
Jordan Janssen paced Wayne State with a game-high 24 points, going 9-of-16 from the floor. He also had a season-high seven assists. Jaxon Gunville recorded 22 points for Minot State.
The visiting Beavers, coached by former Wayne State assistant Matt Murken, are now 8-7 and 5-6 in the league, while Wayne State slips to 11-6 and 6-5 in the NSIC.
In the women's contest, the Wildcats dropped a 70-57 decision. After outscoring the Beavers 20-15 in the opening quarter, Wayne State was outscored 55-37 over the final three quarters, including a pivotal second quarter when Minot State held a 25-13 edge.
The Wildcats were led by Lauren Zacharias with 16 points.
Wayne State falls to 9-6 on the season (5-6 NSIC) while Minot State improves to 7-10 on the year with a 3-8 record in the NSIC.
Both Wayne State teams will be back at home on Saturday afternoon against the University of Mary.
