NORFOLK, Neb. -- Emaniel Alexandre went off in the second half, helping propel the Northeast Community College men's basketball team past Southwestern Community College.

Alexandre scored 24 of his game-high 26 points in the second half as the Hawks scored a 73-62 victory over the Spartans. In addition to his game-high point total, the Bahamas native nabbed 10 rebounds and notched four steals.

“I got really excited when he hit some three-pointers in the second half, because that was huge for us,” Northeast head coach Dan Anderson said. “Mano is kind of our leader and when he is playing well, we are pretty good.”

The game was played Monday after weather had postponed the teams' initial attempt at the game.

The Hawks (11-9, 3-5 ICCAC) also got four timely three-pointers from Norfolk native Ben Hammond as Northeast shot 50-percent from three-point range in the second half. Hammond finished with 15 points.

The Hawks red-hot second half was supplemented by the Spartans shooting just 18.2 percent after the break. Northeast also turned the ball over just nine times in the showdown compared to the 15 turnovers from Southwestern.

Northeast will be in Fort Dodge, Iowa, for a Wednesday matchup against Iowa Central Community College.
