ENID, Okla. -- Runs were not hard to come by in Northeast Community College's baseball split with Northern Oklahoma College-Enid on Sunday.

The Hawks took the opening game of the Sunday doubleheader 14-3 before dropping the late game 11-10. The early win allowed Northeast to claim the series win, taking three out of four in Oklahoma over the weekend.

The Hawks (3-1) continued where they left off on Saturday as Harrison Taubert (Casper, Wyo.) launched his second homer in as many days. Tom Shakespeare (Canberra, Australia) continued to cement his place in the Northeast lineup during his first year in a Northeast uniform with three RBI’s during the contest. Gage Ingram (La Vista, Neb.) and Clay Beaumont (Tekamah, Neb.) got their first action of the year on the mound as the Hawks cruised to their third victory of the season.

Things didn’t go quite as well for Northeast in Game 2 as they held a 10-5 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning before the Jets strung together a late-inning rally to secure the win. Shakespeare was again dominant at the plate as he notched his fourth and fifth hits of the young season in the matchup.

“Well, anytime you win a series, especially on the road, you’re going to be happy,” Northeast head coach Marcus Clapp said. “I thought we handled ourselves very well overall. We have to be better in closing out games, and we will, but overall it was a successful weekend.”

It will be another weekend on the road for the Hawks starting Saturday, as they will battle Allen County Community College in a four-game set in Iola, Kansas.
