LAUREL, Neb. -- Multiple fire departments responded to a blaze in northeast Nebraska early Thursday.

The fire caused significant damage to a structure in Laurel, drawing firefighters from in town and surrounding communities.

According to Laurel Fire Chief Craig Bathke, the Nebraska Fire Marshal's Office would be investigating.

By 10:30 a.m., firefighters were still on scene, with the efforts expected to continue in the Cedar County community through the morning.

Bathke said that the attached garage had caught fire, and they received the call around 8:45 a.m.

The garage was almost completely burnt, while the home only got a little smoke and water damage according the Bathke. 

It was also reported that both vehicles that were in the garage, an SUV and a pickup, were both a complete loss. 

Bathke said that the occupants were not home at the time of the fire.

The cause is believed to be electrical. It was reported that the fire was under control by noon, and they were still cleaning up around 5 p.m.

There was not a monetary estimate on the damages done to the garage and vehicles. 

Assisting crews were Belden Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Dixon Volunteer Fire & Rescue, and Concord Volunteer Fire & Rescue.
