NELIGH, Neb. -- The City of Neligh is going all out to celebrate its 150th anniversary later this year.

The celebration runs this summer from June 29th to July 4th and will feature an up-and-coming country music artist.

Events throughout the birthday bash include a color run, a beer judging contest, a rib cook-off, a concert featuring Corey Kent and Eddie and the Getaway, a fishing contest, a fireworks finale and much more.

One of the organizers Traci Jacobsen said planning for this big event started well over a year ago.

“We invited people from the community to come together and just kind of give some ideas that they would like,” she said. “We ended up having a large meeting a month ago to try to get some volunteers to come in and help with some different events.”

Jacobsen said an event like this takes a whole team to pull off. She added she hopes not only current and former Neligh residents come out but all of northeast Nebraska.

“I hope we get people that come from all over,” Jacobson said. “I’ve had people contact me that don’t live here anymore that want to come back [and] bring their whole family back and enjoy all the activities. We’re really hoping that Corey Kent and Eddie and the Getaway will pull in a great crowd.”

The City hasn't had a historical city book published since 1973 and officials will aim to change that in the coming months. Committee members are working on adding the last fifty years to it. The book will be available to purchase at a later date.
